The Project and the Study Bible

Bible as a Sword” is a project aimed at supporting skilled warriors for God’s Kingdom. One way we do this is by showing the intersection in the text.

We divide the text of the Bible books into two groups: the Bible verses that speak of what belongs to darkness are placed together in a column on the left, with the Bible verses that speak of what belongs to light in the right column. This provides a clear picture of where the boundary lies between God’s Kingdom and that of the adversary. This can effectively contribute to making Bible study easier and more organized.

To help with correctly interpreting the Bible, we share important insights and information. We do this in two ways: for quick access, we have placed short explanations with scripture references on the same page, next to the Bible text. More extensive commentaries can be found in an appendix at the end of the Bible books.

Here is an examples from the Study Bible.

Conquer

We believe that the way we portray the text of the Bible is a help to fight spiritually effectively, to truly overcome and to be free.

“Bible as Sword” not only visually illustrates the boundary in the biblical text, but also shares insights into how God, through His Spirit, liberates our thinking and gives us a new heart. By understanding how God’s Spirit uses the Word like a sword, it becomes easier to work together to cut away all false reasoning and conclusions from our thinking. This results in healthy and powerful thinking, firmly rooted in the Rock.

The battle

Since creation, Satan has been fighting with distortions and lies to deceive us humans and keep us captive in our harmful desires. He poses as a messenger of light, blending darkness with the truth and thus rendering the truth powerless. Darkness works like leaven and yeast, a little of which affects the whole lump. Similarly, a little darkness can darken our entire thinking. To fully emerge from darkness, God equips us through His Word and Spirit, to be cut free, under His guidance, from the lies we have accepted as truth. God encourages us to learn through His Spirit to skillfully grasp His Word and fight with it in love, actively evaluating our own thinking and using it to serve others. We don’t claim to know and understand everything, but we are diligent in seeking and fighting together for God and for each other.

God’s Son

God also gave birth to His living Word in this world and demonstrated its power. He prepared a human body for His living Word. Thus, God’s Son came into this world as a human being to lead us to victory. He received the Hebrew name Yeshua from His Father, which means “He saves” in Hebrew. But the name Jesus is better known among Dutch speakers. Through His incarnate Word (Yeshua/Jesus), God demonstrated that His Word is victorious and has conquered every enemy. Grasping God’s Word like a sword is also grasping His incarnate Word (He who saves). And who can snatch from His mighty hand? With hope and joy, we may study the Bible and seek God’s Kingdom and His righteousness.
